St Nicolaas

De Hollanders kwamen op zondag 4 december bij één om het Sint Nicolaas feest te vieren. Dankzij mijn broer was er een zak met pepernoten en schuimpjes, wat veel vreugde te weeg bracht bij mijn landgenoten. We zongen Sinterklaas liederen, lazen gedichten en pakten de pakjes uit. Dolle boel!

The Dutch gathered on sunday the 4th of december to celebrate Saint Nicolas. Thanks to my brother we had a bag with peppernuts and foams, which brought a lot happiness to my countrymen. We sang St. Nick songs, read poems and unpacked the presents. Jolly!

School Uitje - School Outing

 Op zaterdag zijn we met de hele klas naar Simonstad geweest om Pinguïns te kijken. Dat was echt geweldig. Om meer foto's te zien klik hier: Het Nest Pinguïns. Hierna hadden we een picknick.

Hoge Golven - High Waves

 Muizenberg is bekend om zijn golven. Er komen hier veel surfers. Maar je ziet ook veel vliegers. Maar de meeste mensen die je hier ziet komen om te ontspannen. Wij zoeken het strand ook op om te genieten en te ontspannen. Zeker deze week. Het was behoorlijk intensief. Binnenkort schrijf ik meer over de studie en het hoe en wat van de SBS. 

 Muizenberg is known for its waves. Lots of surfers are here. But you also see lots of kites. But most people you see here come here to relax. We also go to the beach to enjoy and to relax. Especially this week. It has been quite intense. Soon I will write more about the study and what the SBS is all about.

Pas op haaien - Watch out sharks

 Muizenberg is een mooi gedeelte van Kaapstad. De YWAM basis is gevestigd in een oud hotel en ligt midden in de wijk. Op dit moment ben ik samen met Claudia al een aantal keer op pad geweest om onze nieuwe omgeving te verkennen. Op nog 10 minuten lopen is een prachtig strand. Maar pas op voor dat je in de zee duikt. De foto's hierboven laten je duidelijk weten waarom. En zwemmen hier ook haaien!

 Dit weekend kregen we het trieste verhaal te horen dat er nog geen 2 dagen geleden iemand de waarschuwingen heeft genegeerd en toch is gaan zwemmen. Ik zal de details weglaten, maar hij heeft geluk dat hij nog leeft. Ondanks de kans niet groot is dat het gebeurd, het is toch beter om het advies te volgen van de strandwacht.

 Muizenberg is a beautiful part of Capetown. The YWAM base is established in an old hotel en is right in the middle of the area. At this moment I together with Claudia have already been a couple times on our path exploring our new neighbourhood. There is this beautiful beach, not 10 minutes walk from here. But watch out before you dive into the sea. The pictures above show why. There are also sharks swimming here!

 This weekend we heard the sad story that not even 2 days ago someone ignored the warnings and went swimming. I will give the details, but he is lucky to be alive. Although the chance is not so big that it happens, it is still better to follow the warning sign of the shark watchers.

Bijbel - Bible

 De SBS (School voor Bijbelse Studies) is begonnen! Op onze eerste dag, afgelopen maandag kreeg iedere student een nieuwe Bijbel. In de foto is dit nieuwe exemplaar te zien, met op de achtergrond de Muizenberg. Hier is het nog een gaaf exemplaar. Twee tellen na het nemen van de foto liep het al de eerste beschadiging op. Maar ik verwacht dat het er erger uit zal zien na 9 maanden hard studeren.

 The SBS (School of Biblical Studies) has started! On our first day, last monday, every student received a new Bible. In the picture you can see it with on the background the Muizenberg. Here is still undamaged. Two seconds after taking this picture it got it's first scratch. But I expect it will look worse after 9 months of hard study.

Gearriveerd - Arrived

Net 2 dagen geleden zijn we aangekomen in Kaapstad. Het is even bijkomen en wennen, maar nu beginnen we al in het juiste ritme te komen.Hieronder zie je het vliegtuig van British Airways waarmee ik in Zuid Afrika aankwam. Claudia kwam 4 uurtjes later aan. Zij had een langere reis gemaakt. Van Belém, naar São Paulo en dan via Johannesburg naar Kaapstad. Ze is nu in ieder geval over haar jetlag heen.

Just 2 days ago we arrived in Capetown. It is quite some to readjust and get rest, but now we are starting to get in to the right rhythm. Below you can see the plane of British Airways which brought me to South Africa. Claudia arrived 4 hours later. She had a longer trip. From Belém to São Paulo and then via Johannesburg to Capetown. Right now she is getting over her jetlag.

 

Direkt na aankomst zijn we naar het strand geweest. Het is nogal omgeploegd, zoals is te zien, maar dat was vast vanwege de volleyball wedstrijden van de volgende dag. Maar ik zal nog wel meer foto's maken van dit strand. Het is nu lekker warm met een koel windje.

Direct after arrival we went to the beach. It is kind of plowed, like you can see in the pictures, but that was probably because of the volleyball games the next day. But I will show more pictures of this beach. Right now it is warm with a cool breeze.

Ik droom van.. -◊◊◊- Dreaming of..

Alweer ruim een maand terug in Nederland. Krijg regelmatig de vraag wat het plan is, blijf je hier of ga je weer? Om iedereen in te lichten en dat ook via mijn blog te doen: Op dit moment ben ik even hier, maar ik ga er ook weer op uit. De planning is September, en het reisdoel is Zuid Afrika en de uitdaging voor 9 maanden hard studeren in de Bijbel in een school van Jeugd Met Een Opdracht: De School voor Bijbelse Studies (SBS).

Op dit moment worden de papieren verwerkt en leef ik me al helemaal in om naar Zuid Afrika te gaan. Zo lees ik op dit moment een boek van Connie Braam over de Anti Apartheids Beweging. Van mijn tante heb ik ook twee boeken gekregen met Zuid Afrika als onderwerp, één van de boeken is geheel in het Afrikaans.

Already more than a month back in the Netherlands. Regularly get the question what the plan is, to stay here or are you leaving again? To inform everyone and to also do that through by blog: At the moment I am here for a while, but I am also on the move again. The planning is September, and the destiny is South Africa and the challenge to study the Bible for 9 months very intense in a school with Youth With A Mission: The School of Biblical Studies (SBS).

At the moment the papers are in process and I already put my mind into going to South Africa. Right now I am reading a book by Connie Braam about the Anti Apartheids Movement. From my aunt I received two books about South Africa and one is even in Afrikaans.

Verhuizing / Move

Sinds een week ben ik samen met mijn vriendin Claudia verhuisd naar Nederland. Onze tijd in Berlijn is (voorlopig) voorbij. Op de foto is te zien hoe we een hele kar vol geladen hadden en afscheid namen van onze geliefde staf. Met dank aan mijn broer en neef hebben we dit ritje met gemak kunnen maken. Op dit moment zijn wij bezig met de volgende stappen. Claudia wil nu graag Nederlands leren en ik wil mij vrijwillig inzetten voor de kerk. Uiteindelijk willen we terug keren naar JMEO en hebben het plan om een School voor Bijbelse Studies (SBS) te doen in Zuid-Afrika. Hoe alles precies zal gaan weten we niet. Bid met ons mee. 

Since a week I moved together with my girl-friend Claudia to Holland. Our time in Berlin is over (for now). On the picture you can see we had a full cart and how we said goodbye to our beloved staff. With thanks to my brother and cousin we could make this trip with ease. At this moment we are busy with our next steps. Claudia would like to learn Dutch and I would like to volunteer in the church. In the end we like to return to YWAM and have the plan to do the School of Biblical Studies (SBS) in South Africa. How everything will go exactly we don't know. We like you to pray with us.

Op deze foto's laat ik deels zien waar we de laatste weken mee bezig zijn geweest. Deze foto was genomen van de kerk naast het Haseheide Park. We zijn er 2 keer geweest en namen koffie en thee mee om uit te delen aan de drugs dealers in het park. Dat leidde tot verrastte gezichten en interesante gesprekken. Met één van de jongens hebben we nog steeds contact. We proberen heb te helpen om eruit te stappen en een normale baan te vinden.

On these pictures I show a little bit of what we have been busy with in the last couple of weeks. This picture was taken of the church near the Haseheide Park. For 2 times we went there and we brought some coffee and tea with us to hand out to the drug dealers in the park. It lead to some surprised faces and interesting conversations. With one guy we kept in contact and we try to help him out and to get him a normal job.


Omdat het drug dealers zijn, kan ik geen foto's van hen maken. Vandaar dat ik deze foto geplaatst heb van het park. Het is behoorlijk koud en deze jongens staan daar de hele dag. Opvallend is dat de meeste uit Afrika afkomstig zijn.

Because they are drug dealers I can't make any pictures of them. That's why I placed this picture of the park. It is quite cold and these guys stand there outside the whole day. It's remarkable that most of them are from Africa.


Deze week heb ik het ochtend gebed geleid en om wat actiever bezig te zijn heb ik een ABCD-plan gemaakt. In 4 enveloppen met de letters A B C en D, heb ik een brief gestopt met een route op een kaart. Er staan ook aanwijzingen op en gebedspunten. We gingen in groepen uit één en kregen per 2 of 3 een envelop mee. De routes waren allen in onze eigen buurt en ongeveer 1 kilometer lang.

This week I had lead the morning prayer. To make it a bit more active I made an ABCD - plan. In 4 envelopes with the letters A B C and D, I put in a letter with a route on a map. It also contains directions and prayer points. We departed in several groups of 2 or 3 people with one envelope. The routes were all in our own area and about 1 kilometer long.



Op woensdag middag gaan we naar Ostbahnhof om daklozen en drugs- en alcohol verslaafden te helpen. Ook hier kan ik geen foto's van maken, maar hier zijn 2 foto's van mij en Erik voor de Muur. Deze is vlakbij Ostbahnhof. Samen met het Leger des Heils proberen we met de mensen in gesprek te komen. Het is een langzaam proces en de belangrijkste les die we leren is om deze mensen lief te hebben in welke omstanden ze ook verkeren.

On wednesday afternoon we go to Ostbahnhof to help the homeless and drugs- and alcohol addicts. Also here I can't make any pictures, but here are 2 pictures of me and Erik in front the Wall. It is close to Ostbahnhof. Together with the Salvation Army we try to get into conversation with these people. It is a slow process and the most important lesson we learned is to love these people in whatever situation they are in.





Eén dag liep ik met Erik mee en 2 jongens die op dit moment een promotie video aan het maken zijn voor JMEO Duitsland.

Het is interesant om de reacties te zien van mensen als je met een camera team rondloopt. We hadden o.a. een goed gesprek met 2 Deense jongens die zelf ook bezig waren met filmen voor een schoolprojekt. Het was een koude dag, maar we hadden er veel lol mee.

It is interesting to see the reactions of people when you walk around with a camera team. We did have a good talk with 2 Danish guys who were busy with filming themselves for a schools project. It was a cold day, but we had a lot of fun.

L Hand

Gister ben ik eerst naar de dokter geweest en direct daarna naar de Röntgen voor deze mooie foto’s. De uitslag: Niets te zien dat mis is. Geen breuk. Reden: 2 jaar geleden mijn hand geblesseerd met een basketbal en sinds dien regelmatig pijn in mijn linkerhand, zeker als ik gitaar speel. Vanwege het wel en niet hebben van een verzekering en het vele reizen als zendeling heeft het lang geduurd om eindelijk het probleem te zoeken en er behandeling voor te ontvangen. Maar nu heb ik de verzekering en de tijd.

Bid mee dat het proces goed verloopt. Deze week hoor ik de uitslag, dus later meer.

Yesterday I have been to the doctor and right after to the X-ray for these beautiful pictures. The result: Nothing visible that is wrong. No broken bones. Reason: 2 years ago hurt my hand with a basketball and since then having pain in my left hand, especially when I play guitar. Because of having and not having an insurrance en the many trips that I make as a missionary it took a long time to search a solution for the problem and to receive a treatment. But now I have the insurrance and the time.

Pray along that the process will go well. This week I will hear the results, so later more.
